From humble beginnings to a thriving credit union serving the community
Asawasi St. Theresa's Credit Union Limited was formed on 8th August, 1998 as a non-banking financial institution that offers financial service to its registered members in the form of deposits and loan schemes to ease the pressure that parishioners and the immediate community members put on the parish priest and church council when it comes to financial situations.
The Union was started with all the church executives as at that time including the Rev FR. Joseph Yeboah as a Parish Priest before the church members joined. All the 5 board members, which included 1 office staff with the name Mr. Joseph Owusu Agyekum who were all church executives. The Union was in operation for six (6) years within the church premises in a small office with only 30 members.
On the seventh (7) year, that was 2005, management realized that the Union was not growing and things were not working well so they decided to hand over the administration to new management with Mr. Peter Kwame Sarpong as Board Chairman and employed a full time staff in the person of Mrs. Regina Osei-Poku.
The new management saw the need to register ASTCCU under CUA and DOC in order to be regulated by these bodies to ensure long term sustainability of ASTCCU. ASTCCU is registered under the co-operative decree of 1968(NLCD 252), with registration number AR/P/FC/326 and it is also affiliated to the Ghana Co-operative Credit Union Association (CUA) Ltd.
